Below Elbow Prosthetics

Most upper-extremity limb loss occurs below the elbow, ranging from the loss of one or more fingers to partial hand differences or limb loss at the transradial, or below-elbow, level. We recognize that the loss or difference of a hand is deeply personal. We have included information here for all options ranging from passive, body powered, and myoelectric.

Mechanical / Body-Powered

These prosthetic solutions can help you achieve a higher level of function and dexterity. They function through a mechanical harness system, using your shoulder and upper body movements to open, close, grasp, or release objects.

Durable and practical, designs for these prosthetic solutions can resemble human hands or take the form of a hook for improved utility.

Myoelectric

Myoelectric hands use electrical sensors placed on your skin that detect muscle movements in your residual limb and translate them into corresponding movements in the prosthetic hand.

Multiple hand positions and movements provide a more natural and intuitive experience. Designs range from realistic hand-like appearances to more utilitarian options for performing specific tasks, such as a hook.

Specialized Activity

These are prosthetic solutions for your arm specifically designed to help you enjoy and improve your performance for sports and activities like gardening, cycling, weight training, skiing, and paddling.

Each is a custom design that helps you get or stay active in the things you love to do more easily and comfortably.

Cosmetic / Aesthetic

Also known as passive prosthetics, these solutions are designed to closely resemble your natural hand while providing additional support and stability. Typically made with silicone, their lightweight construction also helps your body feel balanced.

While they do not feature active opening or closing functions, these types of solution can provide additional stability and functional support to assist in daily activities.

Myoelectric

A Myoelectric prosthetic device works off electrical signals generated naturally that allow a user to mimic the movements of a sound hand and allow for opening, closing, grasping, and gripping various items and objects. Offered in both full hand and partial hand options.

These solutions are designed to closely resemble your natural hand while providing additional support and stability. Typically made with silicone, their lightweight construction also helps your body feel balanced.
