Considerations
Why would you need a separate device to the everyday prosthesis?
Everyday prostheses are designed for general use, but specialised activities often require specific features. Here’s why a separate device may be necessary:Unique Alignment NeedsComponents for recreational activities often require alignment adjustments incompatible with everyday walking or activities.Environmental FactorsExposure to water, snow, mud, sand or corrosives means these devices need cleaning and drying after and before reuse. (Think of it like wearing wet shoes all day after a shower – its uncomfortable and impractical!)Activities like running or sports demand different joint movement and absorb higher forces, which may require different socket shapes and trim lines for optimal comfort and performance. There are many activities to explore, and prosthetic devices can be tailored to your specific needs. If you’re interested in multiple sports or activities, let your prosthetist know during consultations. They can help design a versatile device to suit your goals. Considerations
Funding a specialty prosthetic limb for your child with NDIS
Children are active and a child with limb difference is most likely eligible for NDIS funding towards a specialty prosthesis. If you’re unsure whether your child is eligible, speak with one of our prosthetists, or check out the eligibility criteria on the NDIS website.
We’ve been working closely with the NDIS since its rollout in New South Wales, so we have a deep understanding of how to help your child access the prosthetic services they need. For more information on funding please click below.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
We've compiled answers to the most commonly asked questions about our clinic, services, and procedures.
What is a specialised prosthesis?
A specialised prosthesis is designed for specific activities or sports, such as running, swimming, cycling, or skiing. These devices are tailored to meet the unique demands of the activity, offering improved functionality and performance.
Why can't I use my everyday prosthesis for recreational activities?
Everyday prostheses are designed for general use, like walking or daily tasks. Recreational and sports activities often require different alignment, range of motion, or resistance to elements like water, mud, or sand. Specialised prostheses address these needs for better performance and durability.
Can one prosthesis be used for multiple sports?
In some cases, yes. Let your prosthetist know about all the activities you're interested in. They can work with you to design a versatile prosthesis or recommend the best combination of devices for your needs.
Is funding available for specialised prostheses?
Yes, funding may be available depending on your situation and goals. Our team can guide you through the process and help organise funding options to make your prosthesis accessible.
