What’s Covered?

Your funding may determine what prosthetics and services are available. If you request upgraded components not covered by public funding, you may need to pay the difference privately.

Ongoing funding typically includes:
  • First prosthesis
  • Replacement or/and socket changes
  • Repairs and maintenance
  • Consumables Items (eg, stump socks)
Your prosthesis will need to be replaced and repaired within certain timeframes to ensure they are safe for you. Our Team at ForMotion Clinic will assess the required timeframe to do this and ensure your prosthesis remains functional and comfortable.

Types of funding

Medical Condition

If your limb loss is due to illness (e.g, diabetes), the public health system or the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will usually cover the costs, especially if you are under the age of 65 years old

Accidents

If your amputation is from an accident with no compensation available, the public health system in your state or NDIS will fund your prosthesis

Compensated Injuries

If your amputation resulted from a workplace or vehicle accident with a compensation body, the insurance company will likely cover the costs

Veterans

If you lost a limb while serving, the Department of Veteran affairs (DVA) will cover the cost

Private Health Insurance

Rarely covers prosthetics but may offer partial coverage – its worth checking with your provider.
